Oranj Fitness is excited to be an official 200-hour Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Certified studio!

Yoga teacher training is an opportunity for you to explore your practice while learning the anatomy of each pose in depth, the history of yoga, and sequencing. Our unique approach to this certification will provide you with a thorough understanding of what is “yoga,” how to sequence, how structure a class, and how to brand yourself while running yoga as a business. Students will leave our fun and intensive training confident on how to lead classes from Restorative yoga to Vinyasa flow, and everything in between!

The Master Yogis

Laura Martini

Laura Martini is an E-RYT 500 and has been teaching yoga for over 9 years.  She has completed over 1200 hours of Yoga Alliance approved Yoga Teacher Training including 200 hours of Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training from Trinity Yoga Center, 100 hours of Holistic Health and Lifestyle Training, 100 hours of Maya Yoga Teacher Training, 500 hours of training from the South Okanagan Yoga Association, and a 100 hour advanced program entitled the “Inner Quest of the Yoga Educator” from the Nosara Yoga Institute.  Laura is an experienced instructor with over 2000 teaching hours under her belt.  She has led everything from therapeutic private classes for people suffering from serious injuries, to public fundraising classes with over 650 people.  She will be our Master Yoga instructor for Oranj Fitness Yoga Alliance Teacher Training and will be teaching 9 out of the 15 days of training.  

Kaitlynn Fleury

Ever since childhood, Kaitlynn has been drawn to healing and had an affinity for sharing with and teaching others. Following her passion, in 2005 she earned her massage therapy diploma with honors from the Alberta Institute of Massage then founded her own company, Fluidity, shortly after. Her motto, “Heal. Love. Inspire,” reflects her sincerity, as well as her unique style and effective delivery – all of which have earned her a diverse and loyal clientele. In 2008, Kaitlynn was approached by A.I.M to instruct anatomy and physiology and is currently teaching the advanced diploma program there. She also freelances as an educator with a compendium of other classes such as therapeutic taping and hot stone massage.  In the Oranj Fitness Yoga Alliance Teacher Training Kaitlynn will be focusing her time and using her expertise on anatomy.  She will be teaching 2 out of the 15 days of the Oranj Fitness Yoga Alliance Teacher Training.  

Sheila Chutskoff

Sheila is the co-founder and CEO of Oranj Fitness. She was born and raised just outside of Nelson, British Columbia. Sheila attended Royal Roads University in Victoria BC where she completed a Bachelors of Commerce in Entrepreneurial Management. Sheila previously held roles with Lululemon Athletica, where she helped grow the company from 4 to over 150 stores. In 2007, Sheila decided to venture out to achieve her dreams and opened her first Oranj Fitness in Kelowna, BC. Since then, the company has grown to 6 locations in Western Canada, with more to come.

Her true passion is seeing everyone around her succeed in life. Sheila is also a yoga instructor, public speaking guru and goal coach. In her day to day encounters with people, Sheila makes it clear how much it means to her that they succeed. As well as her professional responsibilities, Sheila is committed to giving back to the community. Sheila has been hosting the largest outdoor yoga charity event in Kelowna and Fort McMurray since 2008 where they raise funds for local charities. In 2014 Oranj Fitness founded Mats for Metta to make yoga more accessible to local communities.

Sheila has over 500 hours of Yoga Teacher Training based in Vinyasa Flow. She has been teaching for over 10 years and has practiced under amazing yogis including; Nicki Doane, Eoin Finn, Anna Forest, David Swenson, Baron Baptiste and Sean Corn. 

Dana Skoglund

Dana is a certified yoga health coach, 800 hour advanced certified yoga teacher and mother of 2 rambunctious young boys. She has been studying yoga since 2000, teaching since 2004 and has over 1000 hours of training (in the styles of Jivamukti, Anusara and Sridaiva).  Born in South Africa and raised in Texas, she has a deep love and voracious appetite for travel, adventure and learning. She's passionate about healthy living, the creative arts and everything yoga. 

Dana's yoga classes bridge the gap between life on and off the mat. She inspires and encourages students to go to their edge both in asana and in their daily lives. Her classes entail creative vinyasa sequences that gradually, progressively and safely lead students into more challenging poses through detailed alignment instruction. She includes the teachings of Tantric and Traditional Yoga, Hindu mythology, Buddhist philosophy, Ayurveda and modern psychology. With deep respect for the traditions of yoga, she's not afraid to think outside the box and innovate and experiment with different movement styles. 

Carla Playford

Carla Playford has been practicing and loving yoga since 2012. Carla received her 200-hour and 500-hour training in Costa Rica. She loves teaching flow and power classes to increase energy, strength, and flexibility in the mind and body. For as long as she can remember she has been interested in a mind over matter, natural healing, as well as creating a “love everybody and everything” kind of world. Carla has always strived to find that perfect health and attitude that she would see in all of her books, but when she found yoga she learned that life isn't about being perfect all the time. Yoga taught Carla that its important to have balance and moderation in everything you do. She believes that there are good days and bad days; days where you feel strong and steady in your practice, and days you just need to lay in corpse pose for an hour.

Mandy Chutskoff

The love of yoga first started when Mandy took a yoga class in university. After three classes, she became a lifer and started dedicating endless hours to study this art. Mandy has been a highly recognized 300hr yoga instructor for over eight years and has trained directly under world renowned yoga instructor Nicki Doane from Maui. Sri Guru, from Bali Indonesia, is Mandy’s other influential teacher and rock who has guided her on her yogic journey. Mandy has operated and taught at her own yoga studio in South Slocan for over four years. She has taught countless private, adult/children group classes and workshops to meet the community’s needs. Mandy is now co-owner of oranj express Castlegar which opened in November of 2015! Mandy is honored to teach 2 out of the 15 teacher training days, focusing on inversions.

Frequently Asked Questions about Oranj Fitness 200 hr Yoga Alliance Teacher Training

Q – Who is teaching this yoga teacher training?

A – We have three instructors. Laura Martini is our Master Instructor who will be instructing 9 out of the 15 days of training. Shauna Nyrose is our inversion and business ethics instructor who will be training 4 out of the 15 days of training. Kaitlynn Fleury is our anatomy instructor who will be teaching 2 of the 15 days of training. All instructors are based out of our Kelowna studio and will fly to destination locations when necessary.

Q – Can you tell me more details on the in studio Teacher trainings?

A- The in studio trainings run on one weekend of every month for five months. On occasion, the instructors may send you home early with active homework to complete, but for the most part, be prepared to attend class from 630am – 7pm. Each day will include two breaks and a one hour lunch. This training is perfect for people who don’t have the time to fly to a tropical destination and take two weeks off from work and family life. This training is $3600plus tax. A complimentary vegan smoothie, fresh fruit platter, your manuals and reading materials are included. To help support you with your practice, we are providing 40% off any fitness package at the oranj fitness studio during the duration of the training. 

Q-What makes oranj yoga teacher training different?

A – We have a strong focus on anatomy, sequencing and business philosophy. Students will leave this training feeling confident on how to teach classes from Restorative yoga all the way to Vinyasa flow. This training also values and respects student’s time and is condensed into an intensive.

Q– Is there any prep work I should do before the training?

A – We recommend two – three months before the training starts that you make sure you are hitting your mat a least three times per week. Come on into the oranj fitness studios and take any of our classes! They will be great prep for the training. We will also require you have read all the required reading before the training starts.

Q- If I live out of town and am taking the in studio teacher training, is accommodation available for me?

A - At this time accommodation is not included for the in studio teacher training. We anticipate the majority of our guests living locally. If you are traveling from out of town and unfamiliar with the area, our local studios would be happy to provide you with suggestions on nice, safe places to stay nearby.
